Ac 13:46–48; Ro 11:4, 5). beloved. Election means believers are the objects of God’s incomprehensible special love (cf. Jn 13:1; Eph 1:4, 5). put on. See note on vv. 9, 10. heart of compassion. It is a Hebraism that connotes the internal organs of the human body as used figuratively to describe the seat of the emotions (cf. Mt 9:36; Lk 6:36; Jas 5:11).
